Philanthropy

Beta Theta Pi is committed to the community and those less fortunate in the Los Angeles area, having dedicated over 2,800 hours to local orgnizations within the past year alone.

Over the past two years, Gamma Tau, in conjunction with its alumni association, has successfully raised over $100,000 for Swim With Mike, one of USC’s largest fundraisers that supports scholarships for disabled Athletes. Philanthropy Chair Shaun Skoog ’13 sits on the executive board.

Every Spring, Beta Theta Pi hosts its own Philanthropy, Beta Beach. Nine sororities participate in three days of events that culminate with a water volleyball tournament at the chapter house. The philanthropy raises money for the Department of Public Safety Explorer Troop, a mentorship program for at-risk youth in South Central Los Angeles. In Spring 2009, the ladies of Alpha Phi won first place and helped Beta raise over $3,000 to pay for uniforms and supplies for the troop.

Beta participates in all sorority philanthropy events, having won three such events in the last year. Victories include Pi Beta Phi’s Pi Social and the always competitive Phi Ball Tournament hosted by the ladies of Alpha Phi. These sorority philanthropies help raise funds for local and nationwide charities, causes which the Gamma Tau colony is proud to aid.
